CMU Detailing
The following sketch refers to a Parapet/ Roof section at the top of a CMU single wythe wall. The coping should slope back to the roof surface to prevent extra drainage down the face of the wall. Also, note the flashing between the open web steel joist and the parapet. I need to better understand one aspect related to this flashing.. Anybody know how flashing works where it seems to be penetrated by the vertical reinforcement??

Wood Framing
Wood stud construction uses closely spaced vertical studs. There are two types:
- Balloon framing: continuous studs span 2 floors.
- Platform framing: seperate studs support each floor.

Building Foundation
Here are a couple notes from the study of typical building foundations:
- Hydrostatic Pressure causes water to penetrate any joint in underground construction. Think.. water traveling up,sideways, etc.
- Waterproofing membrane is used when the foundation is subject to hydrostatic pressure. It’s a continuous seal over any construction.
- Joints in concrete foundation walls tend to leak. Waterstops are continuous rubber protection immbedded in the concrete.
