Wood Windows

Here are a few sketches I created while reviewing wood framed windows.  Please check out Francis Ching's Building Construction Illustrated for the complete representation of these systems.  Remember wood windows relative to conductivity.. Aluminum is fabricated more reliably, but wood is a more effective thermal insulator.

is this a casement window? Or is it some other kind?

Wood also requires the highest maintenance when exposed to the elements. It can rot, crack, fade, and become structurally unstable. The longevity of wood is less than vinyl, judging by the warranties of the largest wood window manufacturers.

I guess it is more durable if your wood window is within masonry wall assembly. It can be use to cladding system and to achieve various aesthetic effects. The masonry units can create positions and different patterns on the exterior wall.

Installing windows is one hard thing to do. It requires a lot of skill and knowledge.
